Role: Governor
Location: Castleford, Selby and Wakefield, with hybrid options where appropriate
Remuneration: Voluntary, unremunerated role; reasonable travel and subsistence expenses reimbursed
Term: Up to four years, with the possibility of reappointment

Heart of Yorkshire Education Group is seeking to appoint a Finance Governor to join its Board and provide strategic oversight, technical financial scrutiny and constructive challenge as the Group continues to deliver high-quality further education, skills and training across Castleford, Selby, Wakefield and the wider Yorkshire region.
The Group brings together Castleford College, Selby College and Wakefield College, serving more than 10,000 students and apprentices. Governors play a vital role in providing strategic leadership, independent judgement and constructive challenge, ensuring the Group delivers high-quality education and training, remains financially resilient and responds to the needs of learners, employers and local communities.
As Finance Governor, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the Group, support strong financial stewardship, scrutinise financial performance and risk, and help ensure that decisions are sustainable, transparent and focused on positive outcomes for learners, apprentices, staff, employers and communities.
The Board is particularly interested in candidates who can bring:
- Professional accountancy qualification or equivalent senior finance experience.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including financial statements, management accounts, annual accounts and financial planning.
- Experience of financial risk, audit, assurance, internal controls, value for money and long-term financial sustainability.
- Confidence to ask constructive questions and provide independent judgement at Board and committee level.
